Classic, eclectic and chic are just a few of the words that can be used to describe Audrie Austin. She finds inspiration in the most obscure places using life, art, and nature as a foundation. For this reason, Audrie’s style is unlike any other and gives another meaning to the word “couture”. Influenced by the costume designers of Classic Hollywood and designers like Paul Poiret and Coco Chanel, Audrie set a goal to make her own mark on the fashion industry by fusing unique fabrics, diverse patterns, and classic lines.
Born in Dallas, TX, Audrie’s love affair with fashion began at the age of 5. While others played with standard dolls, Audrie found herself dressing paper dolls in her own traced and crafted fashions. For a young girl with an active imagination, this spawned the creative force that fueled her later years.
While attending college in 1989, she created Audrie Austin, a line best described as a sophisticated blend of classic silhouettes enhanced by non-traditional fabrics. The result is the creation of very unique and original pieces. This was Audrie’s primary vision, but she also recognized the need for a “ready to wear line”. Thus, RagWear was born. The idea occurred after creating an outfit using her fabric scraps. RagWear is urban, stylish and comfortable. And because it is composed of new and recycled designs as well as recycled garments and fabric scraps, RagWear is also environmentally conscious.
Audrie has been designing and making custom apparel for over 25 years. For more than 10 years she has also been crafting custom home furnishings and expanding her reach into interior design. Old speakers into lamps, wine bottles into decorative vases and wood pallets into seating are just some of the unique pieces to be found in her home and the homes of others.
Apart from fashion and design, Audrie wears many hats. She is a crafter, blogger, community activist and entrepreneur; a creative soul who loves the arts, enjoys recreating and repurposing materials and giving back to the community via her membership in multiple organizations.
Audrie Austin’s mission is to encourage all to own, love, and accept who they are; while being true to themselves. Her pieces are designed to promote self-confidence. They are vibrant, lively, unpredictable and fun. A mix of different styles marrying together to encourage individuality and personal expression. She believes that fashion is a form of art and that everyone is a canvas. Her motto is “Original None Like It” and it suits.
